Scope of project

  • Garden room extension and additional doorways: Merging interior and exterior environments and create an open, light and airy living area that utilises the surrounding landscape and garden area.

  • Large open plan kitchen/ dining/living: Aspire to gain ability to host more people comfortably, creating unique, individual spaces within large open plan space.

  • 2 storey SW Extension: Creating new entrance way, smaller more intimate living space, mezzanine level and office space below. Aim to bring more light and views to the living area.

  • Utilise loft space: Potential to extend the living space up to roof to bring more space and light into room.

Design principles

  • New timber framed extensions will become feature of house.
  • A simple material palette will be adopted, potentially consisting of locally found materials such as timber + slate to help merge the extension with the surrounding landscape. Extensive amounts of glazing will be incorporated into design to maximise light and views.

  • Any extensions will adopts similar material palettes to help harmonise new design with existing.

  • Achieving an extremely well insulated thermal envelope will reduce the need for heating.

  • Heating will be carefully considered during design, especially if living area taken up to vaulted ceiling.
